You are a writer. That’s why you’re here. You may have done a course, or a workshop or attended a lecture. You enjoy writing (mostly). Perhaps you feel that you have something to learn. Perhaps you don’t. Most writers learn all the time, every day. Sometimes that’s through the act of writing. Sometimes we learn from others. And sometimes the clouds part, the heavens open, a chorus of Muses appears in the sky and knowledge is handed to us in a golden vial. But let’s not get too metaphysical here. One of our tutors says he learns most about writing from his students. Somehow, sharing is learning. But perhaps we’re getting metaphysical again. There’s a simple principle, though, that the company of our fellow writers helps. It provides knowledge and gives us a chance to share ours. It offers support, consolation and encouragement. It can provoke and enthuse us. It can get us to stop fussing, sit down and write that thing.
This forum is by invitation only. If you feel that you belong here, then email Charlotte.
Of course Guests can visit the Gallery and book open workshops or private tutorials. They can submit work for professional feedback - we will do our best to find a suitable reader. Any fees payable are directly to the reader.
We’re not opening the site up to the whole world, at least not for now. We may never. The point is that there’s an element of trust here. No trolls, no crazy agendas. Every member has shown some commitment to the art at some time. So the standards are high. Members can view and post messages, join discussions and pick up tips. Most importantly, perhaps, they can buddy up with other writers or simply invite feedback on their work. This can be done in three ways, if you’re interested. You can post your work for all to see and ask for feedback. You can form a closed group, perhaps based on a group you have studied with in the past. Or you can let it be known that you have work available to read by anyone who would like to offer comments. The last method works best if there’s an exchange of feedback, ‘you read mine and I’ll read yours’. You can arrange this through messaging. To become a Member, all you have to do is register. There’s a button for that. Simply click and proceed.
And that’s it. If you do join, feel free to dip in, add threads, comment on existing threads, share work, look out for industry opportunities and, if you need intensive help, get in touch with a tutor. The site, in the end, will be what you make of it. Good luck with the writing and enjoy.
